CONVENOR’S WELCOME

On behalf of the World Lake Conference organising committee, I am delighted to welcome you to the 20th World Lake Conference held in Brisbane, 21-25 July 2025.

Our conference brings together industry leaders, practitioners, decision-makers, and researchers from around the world to share insights, network, and explore the latest trends and challenges in lake management. Brisbane is a ‘river city’, but its water supply is critically dependent on the quantity and quality of water in its reservoirs. The conference theme of Lakes as Sentinels for Integrated River Basin Management will signify the importance of lakes on the landscape – as focal points for human activities, as indicators of environmental change, and for future health and prosperity.

I look forward to welcoming you to learn, connect, and collaborate with fellow attendees, and make the most of this unique opportunity of the first time that the World Lake Conference has been held in Australia.
