Zhengwen is interested the ecology of shallow lakes. He has long-term experiences in restorations of eutrophic shallow lakes. Aiming to the restoring the clear-water states from eutrophic turbid shallow lakes, he uses the combined approaches of chemical, fish manipulation and submerged macrophyte transplantation and guided scientifically dozens of lake restoration projects, in China. The earliest restored clear-water ecosystem guided by Zhengwen in Huizhou West Lake, China has been maintained for 20 years. He has published more than three hundred papers and supervised more than one hundred master’s theses and doctoral dissertations.
